Dietary Information

At Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Homes, we pride ourselves on providing nutritious home-cooked meals. Menus are planned by our Corporate Dietitian, Dietary Services Consultant and the Food and Nutrition Managers from each Home. The menus are then presented to our Resident Councils and Food Committees for feedback. Changes to our menu are a result of residents input and local cultural influences. All menus are analyzed for nutritional content before being implemented. They meet Canada's Food Guide for Healthy Eating and the recommended daily nutrient needs of our residents. We have two core menus  Spring / Summer and Fall/Winter. The menu offers choice and variety each day. Seasonal local foods are offered on the menu regularly. Our residents enjoy special dining days and summer BBQs as well. We keep meal time relaxed and casual. Trained health care staff are always available to provide assistance as needed.

There is a Food Service Manager on staff at each Caressant Care Home. These trained individuals are experts in dietary and specialize in the nutritional needs of seniors. They are all qualified members of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Managers (CSNM) and remain current and educated on issues related to dietary services and long term care.

Each Home also has the services of a registered dietitian. All dietitians are members of the College of Dietitians of Ontario and specialize in senior's nutrition. The dietitian assesses the nutritional requirements of our residents on a regular basis. The dietitian works with the residents, families and registered team members to develop the best-suited nutritional plan of care for each individual.
