The biggest difference between a retirement home and a long term care home is the level of care that residents require. A long term care home is intended for residents who require 24/7 nursing care and need assistance with daily activities such as eating, bathing or dressing themselves. A retirement home is for seniors who can still lead independent lives but may need a hand every now and again.
Of course! We want all of our residents to feel at home and comfortable. One of the best ways to do this is by personalizing your surroundings as much as possible. While our rooms come fully furnished, we welcome residents to bring some of their favourite pieces of furniture. In addition, pictures can be hung on walls and other personal items such as throws and blankets can add some familiar warmth. Please note that while we encourage personalization, we prioritize the well-being of our residents and may need to limit or deny items that do not adhere to each of our home’s individual guidelines.
Kitchen staff at our homes prepare three delicious and healthy meals in our on-site kitchens. We are proud to use only fresh quality ingredients. Most homes also have access to self-serve snacks so residents can grab what they want throughout the day. For more information, click here.
Our retirement home prices vary by location. We encourage you to reach out to a specific home for the most accurate figure.

Each of our retirement homes offer both respite and short-term stays. We charge those staying short-term the same as permanent residents, and they are welcome to all the same services. You are welcome to stay for a few days or a few months.
The safety and security of our residents is the highest priority for us. All residents have the right to live in a home environment that treats them with dignity, respect and is free from any form of abuse or neglect at all times and in all circumstances. We are committed to zero tolerance for abuse or neglect of our residents.
We also ensure residents have access to a call bell in each of their rooms, 24-hour staffing, and security procedures. All of our homes have an evacuation procedure in place, with regular drills to ensure the procedures run smoothly.
We acknowledge the importance of visitors for the emotional wellbeing of all our residents. We generally encourage guests to come at any time they please. However, during times when the safety of residents may be compromised (for instance, during an infectious outbreak), our visitor policy may be amended on a home-by-home basis.
You can see our full visitor policy in long term care homes here.
The easiest way to get an accurate idea of what residents think of our homes is to ask them. During a home tour, if it feels appropriate and natural, feel free to strike up a chat with a resident and ask for their opinion.
We also encourage family, loved ones and residents to reach out to us about any concerns they may have so we can address them as quickly as possible. For exceptional circumstances or if you’d like to escalate a situation and file a formal complaint, please contact us at info@caressantcare.com.
