June 13, 2025 marks the second annual National Long-Term Care Day. It\u2019s a meaningful occasion to recognize the contributions and impact of long-term care homes across the country.
National Long-Term Care Day is a chance to say thank you to our community, including the residents and their families who share their stories and wisdom, the staff who provide care with compassion, and the volunteers who give their time up to brighten someone\u2019s day.
Together, they create a supportive environment where residents feel safe, respected, and truly at home. It\u2019s this collective effort that makes long-term care not just necessary, but deeply meaningful.
As we reflect on this day, it\u2019s important to understand why long-term care matters more than ever. Canada\u2019s population is aging. According to Stats Can, nearly 7.8 million Canadians were aged 65 or older, that\u2019s almost one in five Canadians. With this shift comes the growing need for safe and dignified spaces for our seniors, and long-term care plays a central role in meeting that need.
While long-term care primarily serves seniors, long-term care is also a part of broader communities that provide a range of support options, including independent and assisted living. Residents in long-term care benefit from 24\/7 support tailored to their individual needs. This level of care is best suited to a range of people who may have difficulty managing daily tasks on their own, are recovering from a serious health event, or are living with a condition that requires ongoing physical or medical support.
