For 32 years Kate Mathews has been working at Caressant Care Marmora and she has no plans to stop doing what she loves anytime soon. Kate started when she was just 18 years old, right out of high school.
"I became a nurses aid," Kate recalls. "I love working with the residents but back problems forced me to transfer to housekeeping. I have been working in housekeeping now for 20 years."
Kate takes pride in her work and often likes to do little things for her residents. She paints the toenails of one resident who fondly calls Kate her daughter.
And caring runs in Kate's family. "My youngest daughter is an RPN in Peterborough."
Kate has seen lots of changes in her 30 plus years at Caressant Care but perhaps the most significant is something personal for her.
"I used to be really shy when I started. I'm not shy anymore."
