October brought cooler days, fall fairs and a full calendar across Caressant Care. Our homes spent the month celebrating the season, giving back to the communities around them, and getting ready for the colder months ahead. Here is a look at what our residents have been up to.
More Highlights from LTC Community Engagement Day
September 18 was such a busy day across our homes that we were still catching up on all the exciting events into October!
Our Harriston home celebrated with a fall fair that can be watched here. Guests included members of the Minto Chamber of Commerce, members of Town of Minto Council and the Mayor of Minto.
At Caressant Care Fergus, Engagement Day coincided with the home’s second annual Fall Fair. We were delighted to welcome MPP Joseph Racinsky, who spent time with residents and community members. A highlight of the day was recognizing several residents and family members with special awards for the care, kindness and support they bring to the home. Thanks to all the volunteers and vendors who helped make the day special!
The Maples Home for Seniors was honoured to welcome Mayor Phil Schaefer, who spoke about the role The Maples plays in the community alongside an outdoor celebration. Residents at Caressant Care Listowel marked the day by taking part in the annual Terry Fox Walk, and our Residents Council made a donation to help students at Listowel Eastdale Public School reach their fundraising goal of $4,500.
Our Bourget home hosted a barbecue with live music from ED, and Councillor Diane Choinière joined us to help recognize the day.

Fall Celebrations Across Our Homes
Residents at Caressant Care Cobden visited the local fall fair, where a highlight for the group was Hazel, who is 101 years young, having her photo taken with her grandmother’s dress.
Mary Bucke raised a toast to Oktoberfest with traditional German music, soft pretzels, malt “beer” and a festive afternoon. Our Woodstock home went in a different direction entirely with an Under the Sea theme that had residents making a splash. Bourget welcomed a visit from the ‘Meet the Keepers Wildlife Rescue centre,’ which brought along some unusual guests.
We also celebrated a remarkable milestone at Cobden, where Myrtle marked her 106th birthday with family, friends and team members. Jill from our kitchen team helped make the day extra special with gifts from the Toronto Blue Jays and the Ottawa Senators!

Giving Back
Residents at Cambridge Country Manor took part in the annual Coffee Break fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society Waterloo Wellington on National Alzheimer’s Awareness Day. Donations of any amount were accepted for a cup of coffee or tea, and this year’s goal was set at $250, the highest the home has ever aimed for. Residents, families and team members raised $575, more than double the goal and the most the home has ever raised.
Our Harriston home also welcomed participants in the Ride for Dementia, who stopped by to visit with residents as part of their work raising awareness and funds for dementia research.

A Thanksgiving Spent Reflecting
We also celebrated Thanksgiving this month with many homes taking time to celebrate with residents.
At Caressant Care Lindsay, residents even took time to reflect on the people, memories and everyday moments they are most grateful for in a video project. Their answers were a good reminder that gratitude shows up in the big occasions and the small ones.
Thank you to our residents, families, team members, volunteers and community partners for a busy and generous month. We are looking forward to November and everything the season brings!
