A Look Back at Spring: Stepping into Summer at Caressant Care

As the days grow longer and the weather warms, spring brings a renewed sense of energy and vibrancy to our Caressant Care homes. Over the past few months, our homes have been bustling with activity, laughter, and meaningful moments. From celebrating cherished milestones and holidays to welcoming special guests and community partners, this season has been a beautiful reminder of the joy that blooms when we come together.

Here is a look back at some of the incredible moments our residents, team members, and volunteers shared this spring.

Celebrating Milestones

Spring was a time for honoring the special people in our lives, and Mother’s Day was celebrated in style across our homes.

  • The Maples transformed their lounge into a serene spa sanctuary. Ladies were pampered with holistic facials, mimosas, and freshly baked banana bread – a beautiful reminder about the importance of self care for all!
  • Listowel hosted a wonderful full-house Mother’s Day Tea to honor the incredible mothers in our community, while Harriston residents enjoyed tea, treats, and the thoughtful gifting of beautiful necklaces to celebrate the day!
  • We also had the privilege of celebrating some truly remarkable birthdays! Woodstock hosted a 104th birthday celebration for one of our cherished residents alongside his daughters, Cheryl and Bettyanne. Meanwhile, Harriston celebrated the 101st birthday of resident Maria. It is an absolute honor to be a part of their ongoing stories.

Festive Fun and Sweet Treats

Our dietary and recreation teams have been hard at work creating delightful and delicious experiences to celebrate the holidays and the transition into the warmer months.

  • St. Patrick’s Day & Easter: The green was out in full force! Arthur and Cambridge Country Manor celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with shamrock shakes, corned beef, and Irish dancing. Cobden enjoyed an Easter luncheon complete with a visit from the Easter Bunny, while Harriston residents dyed Easter eggs for a special Good Friday breakfast.
  • Mary Bucke hosted a highly successful “Dirty Soda Day,” featuring flavors like Dubai chocolate and salted caramel. In Woodstock, residents took a trip to “Port Caressant” for a fun-filled day topped off with a delicious serving of fish and chips. Finally, Bourget residents got a true taste of Canadian spring with a wonderful sugar bush outing to Sand Road Maple Farm!
  • Great things happen when recreation and dietary teams collaborate! Our Woodstock home recently hosted an Elvis-inspired luncheon featuring the King’s favorite foods, perfectly paired with a performance by Elvis impersonator Gary Wesley.

Building Community Connections

At Caressant Care, we believe that staying connected to the broader community is essential for emotional well-being and cognitive engagement. This spring, our homes opened their doors to some wonderful visitors.

  • Harriston held an emotional “thank-you” social for Reverend Doug Bott and his wife, Elizabeth, who recently retired after providing spiritual guidance, weekly Bible studies, and immense compassion to our residents for over 25 years.
  • The LDSS (Listowel District Secondary School) students visited our Listowel ladies to provide manicures and hand massages. The pampering and attention from the students brought so many smiles to our residents’ faces.
  • Our Lindsay residents had a truly enriching visit to T.H.R.I.L. (Therapeutic Horsemanship & Riding in Lindsay). Residents groomed the horses, learned about horse care, and experienced the profound emotional and social benefits of animal therapy.

As we look forward to the sunny days of summer, we carry forward the spirit of connection, generosity, and joy that made this spring so special. Thank you to our residents, families, volunteers, and care teams for continuing to make Caressant Care a vibrant place to call home!
