The Value of Volunteer Support in Long-Term Care

As we move through the spring season, National Volunteer Week (April 27–May 3, 2026) offered a meaningful opportunity to recognize the individuals who generously give their time, energy, and compassion to support residents, families, and care teams across Caressant Care communities.

This year’s theme, “Volunteers Make Waves,” speaks to the powerful ripple effect of kindness. In long-term care, those waves are felt every day – in the smiles shared during a visit, the comfort of a familiar conversation, and the sense of connection that volunteers help foster within our homes.

At Caressant Care, volunteers are an essential part of our care environment. They bring warmth and companionship that enrich the daily lives of residents, whether through one-on-one visits, group activities, or simply being a friendly and familiar presence. Their contributions complement the work of our care teams, helping to create a more vibrant, engaging, and supportive atmosphere for everyone.

Volunteers also play a meaningful role in strengthening the connection between our homes and the broader community. They help bridge generations, cultures, and experiences – reminding residents that they remain an important and valued part of the world around them.

Throughout the week, we had the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the many ways our volunteers make a difference. From long-standing volunteers who have supported Caressant Care for years, to new faces in our homes,  each individual brings something unique and deeply appreciated.

In a sector where relationships and human connection are at the heart of care, the presence of volunteers cannot be overstated. Their generosity enhances quality of life, supports emotional well-being, and helps create moments of joy that resonate far beyond a single interaction.

To our volunteers: thank you. Your time, compassion, and commitment continue to shape the communities we are so proud to be part of. You remind us that even the smallest acts of kindness can create lasting impact.

As we reflect on National Volunteer Week, we carry forward that spirit of generosity and connection – recognizing that the waves created by our volunteers continue to uplift and inspire our homes every day.
