It’s the season to be jolly!
The holiday season is upon us, and unfortunately, so is the cold winter weather, which brings unique challenges for seniors. At Caressant Care, the comfort, safety, and well-being of our residents is always our top priority. As the temperature drops, here are a few simple winter wellness tips to help seniors enjoy the holiday season without falling ill.
Stay warm and comfortable
Staying warm is key. Dressing in layers, even when the heat is on, helps maintain comfort throughout the day. Warm socks, a cozy scarf, and a hat are especially important when heading outdoors or spending time in cooler areas of the home.
Prevent slips and falls
November is also Fall Prevention Month, which is an important reminder to take extra caution during icy or snowy weather. Wearing proper non-slip footwear, using handrails, and taking your time when walking can greatly reduce the risk of falls. Our team also works hard to keep pathways clear and safe for residents and visitors.
Stay active in enjoyable ways
Even during winter, staying active supports balance, mobility, and overall well-being. Gentle stretching, light exercise classes, crafts, or indoor walks are great ways to keep moving while staying warm inside.
Eat nourishing meals and stay hydrated
Winter is a great time to enjoy warm soups, seasonal vegetables, and hearty meals. Eating well supports the immune system and provides energy throughout the day. Drinking water is just as important in winter as in summer, even when you may not feel thirsty. Our dietary team ensures that residents receive nutritious meals, healthy snacks, and plenty of warm beverages.
